The Rough Guide to New Zealand is the definitive guide to the world's adventure capital. Detailed accounts of every attraction, along with crystal-clear maps and plans, will show you the very best New Zealand has to offer — from white-sand beaches and vast kauri trees in the north to the hairline fiords and penguin colonies in the south. Expert writers give you the tips you need, for experiencing Maori culture and food, striking out on multi-day hikes, or tracking down Marlborough's tastiest sauvignon blancs.
At every point this guidebook steers you to little-known sights, like secluded hot pools, as well as popular places to hang out, such as Wellington's best cafés. Insider tips, planning itineraries, and author picks give you the inside scoop on the best accommodation across every price range.
Make the most of your time with The Rough Guide to New Zealand.

We bought many NZ guide books (we took a 3 week trip with our three young children in December 2005) and the Rough Guide was the one that we ended up using the most. We carried it everywhere we went (we mainly drove around the South Island and stayed in over 10 towns). Yes the print is a little small but the content is totally accurate and we got used to using the book as we drove from town to town. Where other books merely "list" restaurants and give price ranges, the Rough Guide goes a step further and often gives a brief description and/or opinion on the ambience and the food. (we found the descriptions of the accomodations and and eateries to be right on). I would definitely purchase a Rough Guide book again next time we plan to travel to another country.Product details

The Rough Guide to New Zealand Paul Whitfield 9781848365230 Books Reviews
I found the book a bit dry (but travel guides typically are)....but my main issue is that I'm missing ~30 pages (including the first half of the index, which is super annoying now that I've read it all and want to go back and reference certain things when I'm not sure where they are)! It appears to be a publishing error, it is not like the pages are ripped out. I will be returning the book...hope it's not a problem that I've made some margin notes already....
nice guide and good activities. I would like some larger maps, thanks
I found this better than the Lonely Planet guide. I used it for our planning for everything except except multi-day tramps. For those I used the less than perfect Lonely Planet Tramping New Zealand book.
Handy thorough journal to New Zealand . Very informative and it was exactly what I was looking for.- a must read
Cool
Very informative. Helped me out a lot in my travels.
Just back from five weeks in New Zealand, guided by the up to date reviews in the Rough Guide and the hiking itineraries in NZ Frenzy. Couldn't be better.
Stayed in a mix of BBHs (NZ's own budget backpacker hotels) and motels and hotels, with support from this excellent book. Great for all budgets unlike the Frommers "budget" guide with B&Bs for $300+, with lots of coverage of the small and smaller destinations that are the heart of sightseeing in New Zealand. Excellent.
